China's New Smart ID Green Card Will Change Foreigners' Life
According to
Ministry of Public Security (MPS) announced on Monday, the Foreigner's
Permanent Residence Card, known as the Chinese "green card," will also be upgraded to new version from July this year.

2. Chip with identity information is embedded
A chip with identity information will be embedded in the new card, making it machine-readable. For the information shared by railways, airlines, insurance agencies, hotels and banks, foreigners can buy railway
and flight tickets, book hotels directly like Chinese citizens, while
the current "green card" holders need to go to customer service for
help. The improvement will bring much convenience for foreigners' life in China.
Foreigners who hold "green cards" can enjoy the following benefits:

- Easy entry and exit in and out of China without a visa.
- Able to work freely and treated according to all Chinese labor laws.

- Invest more than RMB 2 million in China
- Work as vice president, deputy factory manager or associate professor, associate researcher or above levels in China
- Make great contributions to China or are desperately needed by the country
- The spouse and children (under 18 years old and unmarried) of the eligible applicant.
As countless foreigners come to work and live in China, the Chinese government greatly eased its residence and entry policies for them since September 2015, which has helped attract foreign talents.
1. Working experience not required for master's degree holders
On
January 6, it is announced that foreigners who have completed master's
programs within the last year can now obtain a Z visa within the Chinese
mainland without prior postgraduate work experience.
2. Five-year work permits
Last month, a new
pilot program announced by the Ministry of Public Security stipulates
that any foreigner who has been employed for at least two consecutive
years in the country can apply for a five-year work permit.
3. Work permits for senior executives over 60
Since
last year, foreigners over the age of 60 have been allowed to obtain
work permits (if they were senior executives in large corporations).
4. Grading system
From
this month, China started to change the previous work permit
application process to a point-based grading system, which classifies
